For Sale: 1950 Delahaye 180 in ORLANDO, Florida

Vehicle Description

Chassis No. 825015
TITLE : US TITLE

When it comes to ultimate pedigree, the original owner of this post-war Delahaye 180 Transformable Cabriolet was ordered new by the King of Morocco Mohammed V from the Levallois-Perret, France-based firm Franay. Having built extreme, show-worthy cars on such top-tier chassis as Hispano-Suiza and Rolls-Royce, it was clear that the King wished for exclusivity in his transportation. Long wheelbases were also a must, as this car was made to be a parade vehicle. With a generously appointed backseat lined in red leather that could quite literally be characterized as a throne.

When the King returned from Exile and became the first King of independent Morocco he was received in this Historical car, and one can confirm from the video that the back seat did serve as the first Throne where the king sat comfortably with Prince Moulay Abdallah and Prince Hassan who went on to become King Hassan II

The King Mohammed V later used the same Limousine for:

  • ·The parade of independence
  • ·Tangier visit where he delivered the momentous speech
  • ·First Official visit to Casablanca where the King was received with Milk & Dates in his Car (Symbol of honoring your visitors)
  • ·Friday prayers where the King leads his people for their religious duties

According to a report from Jean-Paul Tissot (President of Club Delahaye and expert in Delahaye Automobile history) here is a short list of documented head of states that used this vehicle:

  • ·General Augustin Guillaume, Resident General au Maroc, Chief of the defense staff and Chairman of NATO chief of Staff’s committee and Mayor of Guillestre
  • ·Francis Lacoste, Resident General au Maroc, French Ambassador, UN secretariat general
  • ·Gilbert Grandval, Military Governor, Secretary of state, Resident General au Maroc, Minister of labor
  • ·General Pierre Boyer de La TOUR, Highly decorated Army General and Resident General au Maroc
  • ·Andre Dubois, Resident General au Maroc, President of Federation national de presse

This vehicle was in the Blackhawk collection(One of the largest museums of unique and incredible cars) for over 30 years and was displayed in their Museum

Blackhawk comments that the vehicle was also owned by Tom Barrett "Grandfather of car collector industry" :

“ This 1950 Type 180 Custom Convertible Limousine was designed for Mohammed V. King of Morocco and was pictures indicate that it was used as a parade car. In 1961, the car was passed down to his son Hassan II before being sold to a William A Gaston in the United States. In 1977, the car then joined the collection of Dr. Erle M Heath in Pittsburgh, PA who was known for having a flamboyant car collection. The car was then sold to Well-Known car collector Tom Barrett of Scottsdale, AZ before joining the Blackhawk Collection in 1989.”
