1950 MERCURY WOODIE Though the woodies were typically the most
expensive models to produce in their respective lines, they had the
poorest resale value at the time. And even before most models of
the 1940s and 1950s became collectibles, the woodies had achieved a
certain "special interest" status, with the favored being the 1949
- 1951 era Ford and Mercury. These woodies had established an
almost cult like following in California with the surfers and
beatniks in the 1950s and 1960s owners who regularly varnished and
polished the wood every spring. Today, the 1949 - 1951 woodies have
survived in the greatest numbers of original bodies because they
had the highest original production and because of their sturdier
steel inner panels and tops. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find
an unrestored specimen from any of these years with "perfect"
original wood. This stunning 1950 Mercury Woodie, one of only 1746
produced, is a treasure that would be the highlight of any garage.
