Much of the Porsche 911's storied development can be traced back to
the world of racing, and it was the FIA Group 4 homologation rules
that gave birth to the 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo, the pinnacle of
Porsche's engineering prowess. This iconic sports car, in
production since April 1975, married a KKK turbocharger to the
3.0-liter Carrera RSR engine, yielding 260 bhp and a top speed of
155 mph. It wasn't just about top speed, though; it was also
remarkably versatile, capable of accelerating from a standstill to
100 mph in just 14 seconds.
The 930 Turbo's signature flared wheel arches and the distinctive
'tea tray' rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model,
while its interior represented the pinnacle of luxury for a 911,
boasting leather upholstery, air conditioning, and electric
windows. In 1978, the Turbo's engine grew to 3.3 liters,
accompanied by an intercooler, resulting in a power increase to 300
bhp and a top speed of 160 mph. Due to stringent emission
regulations in the US, the Turbo was absent from the American
market between 1979 and 1984 but returned in 1985, featuring
upgraded Motronic engine management systems, and even Targa and
Cabriolet versions were introduced. The heart of the 930 Turbo, its
turbocharged air-cooled flat-six engine, is a masterpiece.
The final production year of the legendary 930 Turbo was 1989, and
this particular model boasts the coveted Getrag G50 5-speed
gearbox, a significant upgrade over the previous 4-speed setup.
This enhancement made it easier to harness the car's violent power
delivery, making for a more controllable and exhilarating driving
experience. This final year also introduced the famous "tea tray"
spoiler, replacing the equally renowned "whale tail."
This car boasts a striking black exterior with matching black Fuchs
wheels that exude timeless elegance, accentuating its classic
Porsche design. Complementing the arresting exterior is a
tastefully appointed cashmere beige interior that envelops
passengers in a luxurious and inviting atmosphere. Notable options
include a power sunroof, providing an open-air driving experience,
and a limited-slip differential that enhances traction and handling
capabilities. These features add both convenience and performance
to an already captivating automotive package, making this car a
perfect blend of style, comfort, and dynamic prowess.
This specific car has a remarkable history of careful ownership and
meticulous maintenance. Throughout its life, it has had only three
previous owners, each of whom cherished and preserved its heritage.
The most recent owner, in particular, stands out for their
dedication to keeping this classic in impeccable condition. Over
the course of over a decade, they added fewer than 3,000 miles to
the car's odometer, a testament to their commitment to preserving
its originality. This exceptional care and minimal use underscore
the vehicle's status as a meticulously maintained classic, ensuring
its enduring appeal and outstanding condition for generations to
come.
The Porsche 911 Turbo, referred to as the 930 by many, was a
milestone for Porsche both on the street and racetrack. Without the
930, there wouldn't be a 934, a 935, and all the races and
championships that those cars won. With direct lineage to the race
track, these street cars combine a level of raw, unadulterated
power with pure driver enjoyment. Now available for its new owner
and just in time for Rennsport VI, you too can drive the Porsche
that started it all for all 911 Turbos that we know today.
The 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo represents the culmination of an iconic
era in automotive history. With its historical significance,
refined luxury, and newfound control, it embodies Porsche's racing
heritage while offering unmatched power and performance. Own a
piece of history with this remarkable 930 Turbo, and experience the
thrill of driving an automotive legend.
